Wrapping Up ... But Not Done

As we discussed in our last blog post, it has been a busy season of advocating for those with brain injury. Kelly traveled to Bridgeport, West Virginia the last week in March. It was a beautiful road trip through the mountains and over the hills.

The conference used the hybrid model so those who could not travel to the site could still partake in the sessions. There was a nice mix of professionals working in various fields related to brain injury care as well as survivors and caregivers.

Kelly was able to reconnect with a few speakers she has worked with over the years and hear their sessions regarding resilience and substance abuse. As the keynote speaker, Kelly focused on communication during brain injury recovery. Once again, it was exhilarating to share our story and the lessons we have learned through the years. Our hope is to change the systems and bring hope to all the families dealing with health crises.

March is brain injury awareness month but that doesn’t mean our work is done. It continues every day of the year. In April, we will be hosting two webinars focusing on advocacy. The Michigan Brain Injury Association is hosting us on April 21st and the New Jersey Brain Injury Alliance invited us to speak on April 25th.

We are appreciative to all these wonderful organizations that have supported us. Our goal has always been to share our story in the hopes of helping others who may be facing challenges. When we were in the hospital working hard to understand our daughter’s injury, we looked for books and information to bring some comfort and hope but we couldn’t locate any. Our dream was to help our family heal from this traumatic event and then help others. I think we have been able to do this through our advocacy.

Stay tuned for our next post where we will share some of the feedback we have received.
